Maricuela and Fernando, the one who walks along, are cousins and travelers. She talks and talks, because her grandfather had a tongue that reached his knee—like grandfather, like granddaughter. Her cousin, who shared the same grandfather, doesn’t say a word, but with his instrument of keys and bellows, he never stops.

Maricuela and her cousin understand each other perfectly. She sings and tells stories of her travels, pulling magic out of her pocket, her sack, and her suitcase. He stays silent and gives music to what cannot be put into words.
